Thursday Thoughts: Eat cupcakes!

I'm in a particularly quotacious mood today. Here are some quotes for your mind and some pictures for your eyes...

Book Business

I've recently been reading some pretty great books so felt I needed to share. Just last week my sister Claire (who works at Penguin books) emailed me with the subject line “I’m loaning you this book” and all the email contained was the photo of a book and the line “I think you’ll like it.”

This particular book is The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. In a nutshell, it follows Don Tillman, a university Professor who decides to find his future wife by designing a 16 page (double sided) questionnaire to weed out the incompatible partners. From this is born The Wife Project.

I’m only 5 chapters in so my opinion could change in the remaining 293 pages but I feel confident my initial judgement is correct. The word Asperger’s was on the first page and I do love a good autism book.

Here is a wee trailer for it:

So in conclusion, I think you should read it.

On a Night Like This

Lazy clothes

DVDs

Soup and rolls with mozzarella and cracked pepper

A manicure

Tea and biscuits (delicious slice made by Laura)

A book

The weather was colder today and I'm using the opportunity to hole up at home and have a cozy night in.
It's actually a good TV night but since my TV has hideous reception (rainbow coloured blurry pictures!) I've turned to books and DVDs instead. Elizabethtown is one of my most favourite happy movies. The music and the South and Kirsten Dunst make me so happy :)

And now I have blue and silver sparkley nails!!
Nights like this are my most favourite.

Settle Petal

I want to live somewhere like this
Picture from here
With a rural feel and close to water, but not too far from town. Where I can see plenty of these
Taken from here
In a house like this, but maybe a little older
Taken from here
Which I would decorate like this
From here
And this, but a little brighter
From here
These shades would pop up everywhere

It would have a library, because all houses should
From here
And a loft because I love them

I'm in a settling kind of mood tonight. I've been in my new place for nearly two weeks now and there is a lot I like about it...But also a lot I wish I could change. I'd love to buy a place of my own but apparently you need money to do that, and as well, my commitment challenges stretch to house buying - I'm so fussy and changeable it's impossible! Ask me tomorrow what my dream home would be like and I can almost guarantee I'd show you a different set of pictures. I think it's a gemini thing!

Until I win the lotto and make up my mind it's all just a dream...

Snap!

This blog has been awful quiet lately! I hosted a dinner party the other night for my friend's birthday but I forgot to take any pictures of the amazing food because we ate it so fast. That was after I almost burnt down the kitchen (I'm not joking). As usual I've been snapping my camera throughout the madness of the last couple of weeks and thought it was about time I put some up! Let's hear it for happy snap journals!

My pretty, pretty rose

Moving mess!

A ruby red apple

Art up the stairs

A moving fatality

Breakfast at lunchtime

Peach Upside down cake with Vanilla bean icecream!
(This is the only thing I remembered to take a picture of at my dinner party)

Look what I made!

I have a soft spot for pallets and acquired some to make a coffee table. I feel a bit clever.
I used an old glass door from one of my mum's old cabinets for the top....

Easy as that! Cheap and cheerful and something to give my living room a bit of pizzazz.

Backyard Bee Stings

My dad is a beekeeper, has been my entire life and I’d planned for a while to write a post about bees and honey and the extraction process etc. Aaaand then I got stung a couple weeks ago when walking about outside without shoes on. How dare those bees be enjoying the clover when I want to be enjoying the sun!? Then because apparently I don’t learn, I got stung AGAIN on Sunday and I decided I wasn’t such a fan of those furry little bugs so instead I just want to whine about bee stings.
I discovered last year that I’m a bit allergic so my foot looks and feels like a slab of meat! I’m sporting the best cankle I’ve seen in my life and hobbling around everywhere. Booooo.

That is some impressive swelling, right?

I’ll get to the more interesting bee post another day

What's Cooking Good Looking?

I moved house yesterday after very little sleep coming off night shifts. Lots of scowling happened and lots of waiting (the moving company was three hours late!!) and my muscles are sore because I appear to insist on living in two storey places, which means lugging a lot of boxes up too many stairs.

My mum was stationed at my old place to meet the movers and I was unpacking at my new place. One thing we didn't count on was them being three hours late though, so while I waited I did a spot of baking :)

I made the easiest cookies in the world because I didn't know how long the wait would actually be and there was limited kitchen space.

Pinterest introduced me to Nutella and sea salt cookies. Yup, you heard me...

These are crazy easy to make - they only need five ingredients and take 10 minutes to bake! Also, the recipe  says to use an electric mixer - that's a bit too posh for me so I just used a good old wooden spoon and they worked out fine. Electric mixers are so over rated (*cough* I can't afford one). I also wasn't able to stick the dough in the freezer because it hadn't been delivered, so I ran some cold water in the sink and stuck the whole bowl in for 10 minutes.

These are seriously so delicious. I don't always like Nutella but these don't even taste like it! The salt makes them taste amazing and I've impressed everyone I've fed them to so far. I'll definitely make them again.
You can get the recipe here.

Now I need to rest my achey muscles.

Fashion Friday!

It's been such a busy week trying to organise moving (tomorrow!) at the same time as being on night shifts. I've never completely grasped the concept of being organised and it felt like I had ages until I moved. And of course now it's tomorrow and I feel pretty unprepared. Oh well, maybe this time I'll learn...

I've been reacquainted with my old friend Polyvore over the past couple of days and threw together an outfit for each season in anticipation of summer nearly being over. I'm seriously over it. A winter girl through and through!

Summer: (Boo!)
Spring:
Autumn:

Winter: (Whoop!)

I'm thinking I should probably go to sleep now...
